How frequently should my dog get groomed?
We recommend that adult dogs should be groomed professionally every 4-8 weeks in order to maintain optimal skin and coat health and to minimize any possible matting. (some exceptions do apply)
Puppies should be groomed every 2-3 weeks and then transition into 4-8 weeks as they mature. This scheduling helps acclimate your puppy to the grooming process and ensures that grooming is a positive and safe experience for them in the future! This rotation is also immensely helpful in preventing matting during puppy coat change, aids in your pups tolerance of at home brushing maintenance and promotes confidence during adolescent fear stages as they mature!

What if my pet is sick?
We will ask you to reschedule your appointment if your dog has any of the following conditions:
• Diarrhea within the last 48 hours.
• stitches/sutures
• open wounds.
• Giardia, worms, or fleas. -
How often should my dog's nails be clipped?
Depending on genetics and how active your pet is, nail grinding/trimming should be done at a minimum every 8 weeks. Many clients prefer regular nail trims at 4-6 weeks to keep their pet's nails from being overgrown or excessively sharp.
-
What happens if my dog is matted?
Matting can happen and can be a result of many different factors. From puppy coat change to a long summer weekend spent swimming at the beach or a cozy winter day playing in the snow! The outcome of becoming matted can differ greatly depending on the location and severity of matting, along with your pet’s tolerance of any de-matting practices.
We will discuss the best course of action with your pet’s best interest as our highest priority. Ideally, we will be able to safely remove any minor matting and provide a fluffy and coiffed finish for your pup.
In some cases, however, matting can become very painful for your pup if not managed. But not to worry! If it is deemed to be in your pet’s best interest to shave off the matting we will perform a fresh start service to safely and humanely remove matting and allow your pet’s coat to grow in healthy, fresh and matte free!
Afterwards, we will set up regular appointments to help maintain the health of your pets coat and achieve your desired look.

Do you groom aggressive dogs?
We understand aggression in dogs can be due to many factors that are often difficult for both the owner and the pet to navigate through emotionally and physically. Aggressive behavior can stem from general aging, past trauma, physical pain and even chronic illness.
Lavender Paw’s top priority is the safety of animals in our care as well as the safety of our staff. We are willing to work with the client in these situations on a case by case basis, but reserve the right to stop a service if deemed to be in the best interest of the pet and staff's well being. In some situations we may advise to seek out grooming under veterinary care, as that is the safest option for all involved parties.

Do you groom senior dogs?
We love our little seniors! However, they often have unique and sometimes challenging needs within grooming. Their needs often change notably from appointment to appointment. This is completely normal as our pets age and we will help you through this process.
Lavender Paw prioritizes a calm and compassionately tailored grooming experience for our beloved senior pets. We are committed to creating a stress free experience for your pet. We will be very open and honest in expressing what we observe during their appointment and provide any recommendations that might benefit your pets' comfort during this stage of their lives.

How do you handle shy/nervous dogs?
If you have a pet that needs a calm and gentle groomer look no further Lavender Paw is happy to help! The best thing for a shy or nervous dog is consistency! Dogs thrive on consistent familiar routines. Because of this, it is important for your dog to build a trusting relationship with their groomer and the best way to do this is by maintaining consistent grooming appointments to help acclimating your shy dog to their groomer and the grooming process. Every pup is different and we are committed to help them build trust and confidence over time.
To help ease any fear associated with strangers or grooming, we may suggest scheduling options that we feel would benefit your pups experience such as:
• increasing the frequency of visits. This may include simply bringing your pup in to hangout with us for a little while with no grooming services being performed during their visit. They will simply get love, pets, yummy treats and they get to go home! No pressure or expectations other than having a fun, quick and pleasant experience!
• Having you bring their favorite treat or bring something EXTRA special that they only get when they come to the groomers!
• Scheduling at either the beginning of the day or as a last appointment to ensure the calmest atmosphers
Your pup may prefer to have a little quiet place to themselves or want the ability to have their own space but still be around the other pups in our care. We will observe your pup's needs and provide a safe place for whatever scenario your pup would feel most confident and secure with.
